How To Work On A Ship
Seafarers are one who works on the vessel, including caring for and drove the ship and operation of the equipment on board.
It could also be interpreted as the seafarers who sail on the sea job. The mentioned above already covers people who work on the vessel or commonly called Crewing. Here we will explain how to work on a ship.
NOTE TO BE Seafarers.
1. First comrades who want to become seafarers are mentally prepared in advance. Because we would be at sea away from their families, and for those who are married must be away from my wife and kids.
2. Second, we must prepare certificates recognized INTERNATIONAL MARITIME ORGANISATION (IMO)
Requirements according to the type of ship
- For fishing vessel, we had quite a certificate BST (BASIC SAFETY TRAINING) and safely book. To be able to fish a vessel abroad we can add documents to a passport as well as salary per company policy or a different country of residence.
- FOR CRUISE SHIP certificate that must be met are BST (BASIC SAFETY TRAINING), Seaman Book, SSAT, CCM, sometimes wearing PSCRB certificate depending on the policy of the company.
- TO SHIP Passenger certificate must have is BST, Seaman Book, PSCRB, MFA, AFF, SAT, CCM, COC (ABLE Seafarers DECK / ENGINE Watchkeeping) and RATING DECK / ENGINE RATING.
- FOR CARGO SHIP / BULK / CONTAINER certificates should be required almost like a passenger ship, just do not wear CCM.
- FOR tanker OIL / GAS / chemical certificates that must be completed is BST, Seaman Book, PSCRB, MFA, AFF, SSAT, BoCT / BLGT, COC (ABLE Seafarers DECK / ENGINE Watchkeeping) and RATING DECK / ENGINE RATING.
- FOR TUGBOAT certificate required is BST, Seaman Book, SSAT, AFF, COC RATING DECK / ENGINE RATING. it is for the tug boat in general. because tugboat mostly only have a small size.
- For international ship documents and certificates that should be added is like a passport, sdsd, Yellow fever, MCU, SID ETC. all depends on the company policy.
Position seafarers on ships as follows :
The deck is divided into the Department and the Department of Engineering, besides divided into officer / officer and subordinate / Rating.
Deck Officers
- Master is the leadership and responsibility cruise
- Chief Officer in charge of regulating the charge, fresh water supplies and as a regulator-way navigation.
- Second Officer in charge of making the route map of the cruise that will be done and the regulator-way navigation.
- Third Officer served as a tool to maintain all safety equipment ships and also served as a regulator of the navigation directions.
- Radio Officer served as a radio operator communication and is responsible for maintaining the safety of the ship from danger either that which caused the universe like a storm that the ship does not sink.
Engine Officers
- Chief Engineer as its chairman and in charge of all the machines on board both aircraft engines, auxiliary engines, pumps, engine crane, lifeboat engine, steering the machine, the machine freezer etc.
- First Engineer responsible for aircraft engines.
- Second Engineer responsible for all auxiliary machinery.
- Third Engineer responsible for all the pumps.
- Electrical engineer responsible for all engine that uses electricity and the entire backup power.
Ratings deck and engine
- Bosun as Chief of daily work in the maintenance of the ship.
- Able Bodied Seaman charge of organizing steering ship while sailing.
- Ordinary Seaman assistant Bosun.
- Pumpman only for tankers.
- Oiler No. 1 head of daily work in the engine department.
- Fitter as a welder.
- Oiler served to lubricate and maintain the ship's engine.
- Wiper cleaning in the engine department.
- Is responsible for any cook foods such as cooking, setting menu, and food supplies.
- Mess boy assisting the cook.
Proponents of the Mandatory certificate to work on ships owned is :
1. Basic Safety Training (BST)
2. Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF)
3. Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (SCRB)
4. Medical First Aid (MFA)
5. Medical Care (MC)
6. Tanker Familiarization (TF)
7. Oil Tanker Training (OT)
8. Chemical Tanker Training (CTT)
9. Liquified Gas Tanker Training (LGT)
10. Radar Simulator (RS)
11. ARPA Simulator (AS)
12. Public Radio Operator (ORU) / GMDSS
